Context & Problem

The group of students, which I was included, had the challenge of proposing a solution for a social problem, in this case, politics. So, the group started to understand what kind of problems the younger generations were facing in relation to the next elections in Brazil and try to find manners of support and help people in their own decisions. The big goal was to put in pratic the Double Diamond with some other tools for each phase.

Process

The process started with desk research about politics and what influence people to vote. From this, a CSD Matrix was done as a base to prepare a questionary to interview some people and a survey that had 38 respondents.

With all the data, we could clearly understand that there were two points as a problem to be solved: turn politics into something less abstract, connecting it in the daily routine of people and the combat of fake news, once many people were not sure about the news they were receiving, specially from the social media.

After that we had cleared the problems, it was time to find a solution. Another research was made, at this time we thought that a Benchmarking around products and services could be a fit with what we were looking for and from this a 5W2H was discussed and prepared as a base to think about some possible solutions.

Since we had the benchmarking and did a lot of discussion, was time to discuss some possible ideias as a solution – we did it using the Crazy’s 8, so ideas could be refined and validated with some possible users using the interview format.

Once it has been done, the draw of a Journey took shape, considering the personas we already had from the initial phases.

So we were ready to start prototyping, but not before doing an heuristic evaluation of apps and pages on the web.

Solution

The solution was an app about politics, where users could read information from secure sources, see politicians’ information (for example if the candidate was involved in some kind of crimes), political party, and do a test to understand their own political orientation. Another point was that they could select subjects and see news associated to that i.e., how politics were associated with environment, education, among others. That’s why the name was “Aver” which is a pun that means “in relation to” in Brazilian Portuguese language.

Results & Impact

The results were presented in a 3 minute’s pitch and the group received some advices and tips to think about, to maximize the application, like: do the usability test with users and get some more feedback.
